Highway 3A north of Keremeos will be closed for at least another few days as crews continue to deal with a rockslide Tuesday.

The slide came down onto Highway 3A at Yellow Lake, April 15, closing the route between Kaleden in the north and Keremeos in the south.

The slide area needs some blasting and rock removal before the highway can be cleared, according to a press release from the Ministry of Transportation. A plan is in the works but the highway is expected to be closed through until Friday, April 18.

The ministry said crews and equipment will start clearing the site as soon as engineers say it’s safe.

The slide happened in a known rock-fall area and the wide catchment ditches reduced how much rock ended up on the road during the slide but not all of it.

There is a detour available along Highway 97 to Highway 3 which adds roughly 70 minutes to travel times.
