A Vernon man was found in the possession of loaded pistols, ammunition, bear spray and knives in Kelowna this past weekend.

Kelowna RCMP received a report of a vehicle parked on the side of the street with loud music playing and man inside who appeared to be unconscious at around 6:33 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, according to an RCMP media release. RCMP do not say exactly where in the city the car was parked.

The lone male occupant was passed out in the passenger seat of a silver 2021 Volkswagen Jetta, RCMP said. Officers had the male exit the vehicle and discovered a loaded pistol on the passenger side floor. The man was arrested and the vehicle searched.

A second loaded pistol was found in a bag with a spare magazine and a round in the chamber. Also found were bear spray, brass knuckles and multiple knives. The weapons and ammunition were seized and the man was transported to cells.

He is due to appear in court later today, Oct. 11, on several charges including firearms possession, carrying a concealed weapon, carrying a firearm or ammunition contrary to a probation order, unauthorized possession of a motor vehicle and failing to comply to a probation order.

“We are very fortunate no one was hurt during this arrest," Kelowna RCMP media relations officer Const. Mike Della-Paolera said in the release.
