Two vehicles, including a pickup truck, were clocked doing well over the posted speed limit on Highway 97 north of Vernon earlier this week.

RCMP officers caught one vehicle going 146 km/h and the pickup going 162 km/h, according to a Vernon RCMP social media post.

The speed trap was set up on Highway 97 near Monte Creek on Monday, Jan. 8.

Both drivers were fined for excessive speed and their vehicles were impounded for seven days, RCMP said.

"Speeds like this are never safe and even more dangerous during winter driving conditions," the post read. "Take your time and make sure you arrive at your destination safely."
