Kelowna RCMP hand out 70 traffic tickets during enforcement blitz
Blue skies and hot weather are here and the Kelowna RCMP traffic cops are continuing to crackdown on drivers who decide to go for a dangerous summer drive.
Municipal Traffic Unit officers focused the enforcement in school zones and also did speed checks and watched for distracted driving around the city on June 4, according to an RCMP media release.
Officers handed out 70 traffic tickets throughout the day.
There were 21 tickets for driving while using a cell phone, 22 for speeding and 11 for speeding in a school zone.
Police impounded a vehicle and issued a three-day suspension to a drunk driver in a school zone and caught someone going 69 km/h in the same school zone.
“With the warmer weather now upon us, the Kelowna Municipal Traffic Unit is continuing its efforts to target speeders, distracted drivers using cell phones, all with the goal of making our roads safer for everyone in the community,” Sgt. Kyle Ushock said in the release.
