iN VIDEO: Trucker's emergency maneuver prevents collision near Vernon
A commercial truck driver is being commended for their reaction to a dangerous driving situation near Vernon.
While driving along a section of Highway 97 between Vernon and Falkland, the trucker's dashcam footage shows another semi stopped at Salmon River Road waiting for a chance to turn left onto the highway.
However, instead of waiting for a safe opportunity, the driver in the stopped truck decided to turn left without without enough time to do so.
The driver recording the situation was forced to slow their vehicle and swerve into the intersection to avoid collision. A private vehicle can also be seen approaching the intersection from Salmon River Road during the emergency maneuver, but there was enough space for that driver to steer clear.
The near-miss was recorded and shared to the Facebook page Skilled Truckers Canada.
"Wait the few seconds," reads the Facebook post. "Don't be a highway king."
The post has kinder words for the other driver.
"Hats off to the hero who managed to avoid a collision. Thank you for being the professional and driving safe and aware."
