Snow is in the forecast for the Interior today, Jan. 21. 

In Kamloops, there will be a high of 0 and low of -2 Celsius, and periods of snow are expected begin at 11 a.m., according to Environment Canada. Vernon and Kelowna will both be getting snow beginning at 3 p.m., where there will be a high of 0 and low of -3 C. And Penticton will hover between 0 and -1 C with periods of snow beginning at 2 p.m. In Kamloops and Penticton, 2 to 4 centimetres is expected, and in Vernon and Kelowna 5 cm is in the forecast. 

Looking at the roads, DriveB.C. is reporting there is debris on Highway 1 between Salmon Arm and Tappen. The road is open to traffic while crews patch up some pavement. “Numerous potholes in the area, watch for road signage,” the notification says.

Highway 1 also has limited visibility due to fog from Sicamous to Revelstoke; Highway 5 has slippery sections between the Coquihalla Summit and Merritt and there are frost heaves from Skye Blue Loop to Junction Hwy 97C; Highway 8 has frost heaves and drivers are advised to watch for falling rocks from Dot Ranch Cut-Off Road East to the end of the highway; Highway 97A has slippery sections from Enderby to Sicamous; and Highway 97C has compact snow from the Pennask Summit to Merritt.

At the ski hills, Big White Mountain Resort is reporting no new snow but 27 centimetres over the past week. The Ridge Rocket Express and Alpine T-Bar are on standby for maintenance this morning. There has been 7 cm at Sun Peaks Ski Resort over the past week; SilverStar Mountain Resort last got 5 cm on Dec. 30; and Apex Mountain Resort is reporting 11 cm of snow over the past week.
