iN TRAFFIC: Prepare for a cold spell in the Interior
Temperatures are going to be lower than normal throughout Southern B.C.
A cold spell is in effect and Environment Canada has issued special weather statements for most of the province, including Kamloops and the Okanagan.
“Temperatures will be 5 to 10 degrees colder than normal for this time of year in the central and southern interior of B.C.,” the statement says.
“A short period of gusty winds will accompany the cold air's arrival through the interior, and may combine with snow leading to a brief period of blowing snow Saturday.”
Highway 5 is open in both directions again, north of Kamloops, following a semi rollover, according to DriveB.C.
DriveB.C. is also reporting Highway 1 is foggy between Chase and Revelstoke and water is pooling between Jackass Mountain Summit and Spences Bridge; Highway 3 has fog patches from Princeton to Hedley; Highway 5A has compact snow between Kamloops and Merritt; Highway 6EW has fog from Vernon to Cherryville; and Highway 97C has compact snow between Merritt and the end of the highway and blowing snow from Pennask Summit to West Kelowna.
Charles Andrews commutes from Armstrong to Sicamous via Highway 97A, and he reported a "great" drive this morning.
"Patches of light fog at Armstrong," he said.
Temperatures in Kamloops will range between 3 Celsius a 5 C today, according to Environment Canada. Vernon and Kelowna are both in for a high of 6 C and low of 1 C. Penticton is in for a high of 5 C and low of a 1 C.
At the ski hills, Big White Mountain Resort, is reporting 7 centimetres of new snow and 30 cm over the past week. There has been 14 cm of snow at Sun Peaks Ski Resort since yesterday and 36 cm over the past week; SilverStar Mountain Resort has a fresh snow depth of 18 cm today; and Apex Mountain Resort is reporting 12 cm of new snow and 26 cm over the past week.
