iN TRAFFIC: 'More sand and snow than bare road' on some Interior highways
Drivers may notice Interior highways are slippery today, Jan. 25.
DriveB.C. is reporting Highway 1 has compact snow between Sicamous and Revelstoke; Highway 5 has compact snow from Merritt to Surrey Lake Summit; Highway 5A has compact snow between Merritt and Kamloops; Highway 6EW has slippery sections from Vernon to Coldstream; Highway 97C has compact snow from Elkhart Road and Merritt; and Highway 97D has compact snow throughout.
Charles Andres commutes from Sicamous to Armstrong via Highway 97A, and he said there were slippery sections throughout the drive this morning.
"More sand and snow than bare road," he said. "The picture was what the road mostly looked like from Grindrod to Sicamous."
Temperatures in Kamloops will rise from 0 to 4 Celsius throughout the day, according to Environment Canada. Vernon and Kelowna will both reach 0 by 10 a.m. and then temperatures will range from 1 C to 3 C. Penticton is in for a high of 6 C and low of 3 C.
It’s looking like a good day at Big White Mountain Resort, where 15 centimetres of new snow has been reported and 35 centimetres over the past week. There has been 7 cm of snow at Sun Peaks Ski Resort since yesterday and 23 cm over the past seven days; SilverStar Mountain Resort has a fresh snow depth of 1 cm today; and Apex Mountain Resort is reporting 2 cm of new snow and 11 cm of snow over the past week.
