iN TRAFFIC: Foggy morning in parts of the Interior
There's some fog, wet weather and slippery roads in the Interior today, Jan. 8.
DriveB.C. is reporting this afternoon that water is pooling on Highway 97 north of Oliver. Traffic in both directions is advised to reduce speed to 50 km/h.
THis morning, DriveB.C reported compact snow on Highway 1 from Kamloops to Revelstoke, and from Spences Bridge to Cache Creek; Highway 3 has compact snow and slippery sections from Princeton to Hedley, and from Keremeos to Osoyoos; Highway 5 is slushy from Surrey Lake Summit to Kamloops; Highway 97 has fog and compact snow from Okanagan Falls to Kelowna; Highway 97C has limited visibility due to fog and compact snow between West Kelowna and Merritt; and Highway 97D has slippery sections throughout.
In weather, the day starts at 0 in Kamloops before warming to 4 Celsius this afternoon, and then dipping to 2 C tonight, according to Environment Canada. Vernon and Kelowna are both in for a high of 2 C and low of 0. Penticton will hover between 4 C and 5 C throughout the day. There is a chance of showers throughout the region this afternoon.
At the ski hills, Big White Mountain Resort is reporting 11 centimetres of new snow and 16 cm over the past week. There is 5 cm of new snow at Sun Peaks Ski Resort and 7 cm over the past week where there is an alpine base of 126 cm; the last significant snowfall at SilverStar Mountain Resort was 5 cm on Dec. 28, and the alpine snow base is 147 cm; and Apex Mountain Resort is reporting 14 cm of new snow and 30 cm over the past week.
