iN TRAFFIC: Highway 5 has reopened north of Kamloops
A vehicle fire had Highway 5 down to single-alternating traffic north of Kamloops this morning Jan. 18, but it reopened shortly before 11 a.m.
DriveB.C. is advising drivers that there is limited visibility due to fog on Highway 1 between Sicamous and Revelstoke; Highway 3 has compact snow east of Osoyoos; Highway 5 has slippery sections between Great Bear Snowshed and Coquihalla Summit; Highways 6EW and 97 both have slippery sections from Vernon to Coldstream; Highway 97A has slippery sections from Enderby to Sicamous; and Highway 97C has compact snow between Loon Lake Road and Merritt.
Charles Andrews, who commutes to Sicamous from Armstrong via Highway 97A, said the road was bare and wet this morning, and that he came across an accident before reaching Armstrong.
“Emergency crews were on scene and traffic was getting through,” he said. “That was between Rosedale and Smith Road in the southbound lanes. The road didn’t seem slippery but it may have been."
Looking at weather, in Kamloops there will be a high of 5 Celsius and a low of 2 C. Vernon and Kelowna will both get a high of 2 C and low of 0 and there will be periods of snow beginning tonight. And in Penticton temperatures start at 2 C and will hover between 3 C ad 4 C for most of the day.
At the ski hills, Big White Mountain Resort is reporting 57 centimetres of snow in the past week and an alpine snow base of 186 cm. There has been 17 cm of snow Sun Peaks Ski Resort over the past week and there is an alpine snow base of 142 cm; SilverStar Mountain Resort has a fresh snow depth of 5 cm and an alpine snow depth of 173 cm; and Apex Mountain Resort is reporting 2 cm of new snow and 22 cm over the past week.
