Elderly man in wheelchair victim of Vernon hit and run
A driver in downtown Vernon didn't stop after hitting an elderly man in a wheelchair.
Police responded to the collision, which happened on 34th Street, around 3:50 p.m., according to a release from the Vernon RCMP. The victim was crossing where the road intersects with 28 Avenue when he was struck by a southbound vehicle.
“After hitting the man, the vehicle reversed, went around the injured man and continued on 34 Street,” the release says.
Witnesses saw the vehicle turn west onto 27 Avenue, and described it as a black four-door Lexus sedan. It will have obvious front-end damage, the release says.
The 71-year-old victim was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Anyone who can help with the investigation is asked to contact the Vernon RCMP at 250-545-7171 and reference 2023-14157.
