A commercial truck driver is facing three criminal charges after he crashed into the front yard of a Kamloops home last fall.

Kurpal Singh Khaira, born in 1988, is accused of driving drunk when he rammed through multiple parked vehicles before careening into the front yard of a Columbia Street home in October.

He was charged with impaired driving, operation of a vehicle while over the legal limit and failure to stop at an accident on May 4, according court records.

Kamloops RCMP said at the time the driver fled the scene, but was found shortly after and arrested. Police did not say alcohol was a factor in the investigation.

No one was injured in the collision, nor was a home hit. The truck did, however, crash into two front yards around 4:20 a.m., Oct. 18, 2022.

The car carrier also forced three vehicles off the road and damaged another.

Of the two front yards hit, the one that took the brunt of the damage was the scene of a house fire in 2021. The home had only recently been rebuilt and landscaping renewed.

Khaira is not currently in custody and he hasn't been scheduled for a court appearance yet, court records say.

The car carrier company displayed on the cab of the crashed Peterbilt is based in Calgary.
