A person was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Kamloops this morning.

Around 6 a.m. today, Dec. 28, Kamloops RCMP officers were dispatched to the 4600 block of the Yellowhead Highway, according to an RCMP news release.

A car had driven into the ditch near the train tracks. Once on-site, emergency responders located the driver who had already passed.

“The victim is believed to have been the vehicle’s sole occupant,” Cpl. Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson, said in the release. “Municipal traffic and frontline officers remain on scene as part of the investigation. One southbound lane is currently closed.”

An investigation will also be conducted by the BC Coroners Service.

Anyone having information or dash camera footage that may be relevant to the investigation is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2023-45297.
