Your one-stop shop for outdoor power equipment

If you are looking for outdoor power equipment in the Central Okanagan, there’s a store in Kelowna that has you covered — no matter what you need. Okanagan Power Equipment, at 102-2791 Highway 97 North, carries an extensive range of outdoor power tools and machinery by well-known companies like Stihl, Toro and Briggs and Stratton.

From popular items like chainsaws, trimmers, pumps, generators and blowers, to more specialized items, Okanagan Power Equipment has the tools you need to get the job done. But its large inventory of equipment, parts and accessories is not all. The store also services equipment and takes used equipment on consignment.

Their experienced staff have the knowledge to help you find the right tool for your job and explain how it will work best for you. They will even teach you how to use it properly if you need that guidance.

“Service is our specialty,” says owner Angela Hamilton, who says she learned that from her mother, who along with Angela’s father, owned and operated a successful chainsaw store in Kelowna for 25 years. It was working for her parents at their store that Angela says she not only learned about the business but also about the importance of treating customers like family.

“I love the people who come in here and we deal with all types of customers,” she says. Hamilton has owned Okanagan Power Equipment since 2017; she says her clientele is equally split between “newbies” and experienced equipment operators.

With the phenomenal growth the Okanagan has seen in building and development in recent years, demand for the products her store sells has increased. With so many people stuck at home during the COVID-19 pandemic, she says a lot of homeowners are casting a critical eye over their property and deciding to make changes. That has not only increased the need to buy outdoor power equipment but also for knowledge about its use and maintenance.

Hamilton says she is planning a series of educational videos to post to the internet explaining the basics. She says it’s information she gets asked for all the time.

“We truly care about what we do and our customers,” she says, adding the store is a one-stop for outdoor power equipment, parts and accessories and education.

One example she says many may be surprised about is the relatively short shelf-life of fuel, such as gasoline, and the impact stale fuel can have on engines. After just a few months left in a machine, stale gasoline can gum up an engine’s carburetor and lead to problems. Okanagan Power Equipment sells a specially formulated fuel, called Motomix, that can help eliminate that problem. Another specialized product the store sells is the Snowdog, a versatile gas-powered machine that can be used for both towing and pulling, in both summer and winter. The store offers pick-up and delivery, and their website, okanaganpowerequipment.ca lists information about the equipment it sell, and links to make service and/or parts requests.

The store’s hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. So, if you have a job to do and need equipment, or are an outdoor gardening enthusiast, drop by Okanagan Power Equipment as they may have just what you need.
