A ball python snake has been missing from its home on Kamloops’ North Shore since last night, July 27.

Owner Marla Edwards is hoping to locate it as soon as possible.

“He is a baby, about three feet long and his name is Wiggum,” she said.

While it is possible the snake could still be inside Edward’s house somewhere, after searching every nook and cranny and under every appliance, she believes it is very likely Wiggum is somewhere outside in the Stardust Street area in Brocklehurst.

“We have had him for a year and he is always in a cage, this is the first time he escaped,” Edwards said. “Somehow he pushed the lid open, we can’t figure it out, the lid must be about ten pounds.”

Edwards is not certain how long Wiggum can survive in the outdoors.

“Snakes can handle heat to a point and he could possibly find food, but he needs access to water,” she said. “We really need to find him as soon as possible.”

After posting the photo of the snake and the situation on social media, Edwards said some people responded with fearful comments.

“I don’t know why people are so worried, he can’t eat anything bigger than a mouse, he’s a baby,” she said. “I don’t want people to be afraid.”

Edwards adopted the snake from a petting zoo where it was handled by many children. She said Wiggum doesn’t bite.

He is around three feet long with dark green and black colouring. Edwards is hoping the public will keep their eyes open as they are walking or driving in the area.
