Summerland Credit Union: Membership Means Something
Summerland Credit Union has been proudly serving the Okanagan Valley for more than seventy-five years. The Credit Union staff are truly dedicated to providing members with exceptional service and innovative financial solutions that meet their needs. They also take pride in its commitment to giving back through its support of over 70 local community groups and charities in Summerland, B.C. Summerland Credit Union is also a financial supporter of the Summerland Community Fund and the Summerland Credit Union Legacy Fund.
The VP of Marketing and Communication, Josh McKay, points out, "We strive to impact our members', employees' and communities' lives for the better. Our core purpose is 'We Enrich Lives', and that guides everything we do through a culture that is empowered, innovative and nimble."
Like all credit unions in B.C., Summerland Credit Union requires that you become a member. And membership is easy; members become owners/shareholders for a $25 refundable membership fee and then can open an account. Becoming a member is a great way to be a part of something bigger as well. Members are given the opportunity to shape and direct the credit union's future. Your membership "share" allows you to vote on the Board of Directors and any special initiatives at the annual general meeting. If you have greater aspirations, you can even run for the board of directors (after being a member for at least one year)—making membership an even more attractive option.
"Credit Unions have strong community connections and we encourage people to consider them as a viable banking alternative to banks," McKay says.
Unlike the big banks, Summerland Credit Union offers a more personalized approach, as all the decision-making is done in-house, which means a faster turn-around when it comes to mortgage and loan applications as well other financial services. Or, if you have any questions, you can speak to someone directly who is familiar with your individual needs.
Summerland Credit Union is proud to be part of the Summerland and area communities they serve, and they invite you to join them and experience a whole new way of banking.
