Kelowna realtor fined for conflicts of interest
A Kelowna realtor has been fined $15,000 for contravening the Real Estate Services Act.
The B.C. Financial Services Authority, which regulates the industry, said Donna Craig of Menethil Properties Ltd committed three breaches including two for “fail(ing) to take reasonable steps to avoid a conflict of interest.”
Craig was fined $5,000 for contracting her licensed assistant to clean four houses owned by her clients between January 2020 and January 2021. She was fined another $5,000 for contracting her common-law spouse to do repairs and maintenance on four of her clients’ homes between August 2018 and September 2022.
The last $5,000 fine is for failing to provide a client with an inspection report in a timely manner.
Craig can still contest the fines if she asks for reconsideration within 30 days and “show due diligence exercised to avoid the contraventions.
These are all first time offences for Craig.
