A new development is being planned for Kamloops's North Shore along the Thompson River.

In-person and online engagement sessions are being held next week for the Thompson Landing on Royal Avenue, two apartment buildings that will be connected by a European-style terrace, Arpa Investments partner Joshua Knaak said.

They hope to present the roughly $18 to 20 million project next month to the city council next month.

The four-storey and five-storey apartment buildings will have 64 units split among between them along with 86 underground parking stalls.

“Almost all of our business has been in this neighbourhood, the North Shore. We built our first property back in 2016 and we continued to acquire land... It’s an area that has a lot of potential for revitalization,” Knaak said.

He said the waterfront on the North Shore is very “underutilized real estate,” so “hopefully this is the first of many pieces along that corridor that can really activate that waterfront.”

The complex will be located on the edge of the riparian zone, roughly two to five metres back from the zone, and the design has already been approved by different ministries, he said.

As far as flooding concerns go, no residential building is allowed within a city’s flood plain, he said.
