A big, bright full moon could be seen in skies over Kamloops and the Okanagan last night and area photographers took advantage, capturing and sharing the images they captured.

Kamloops resident Tracy Hersey was trail running with her club at Kenna Cartwright Park when the group stopped to take in the view of the moon and the city just before 7 p.m. yesterday, March 7.

“It was really cool, it really lit up the mountain,” she said. “I believe all of us took out our phones to take photos.”

The full March moon, also known as the Worm Moon among other names, has reached its peak illumination and is now waning.

Night sky watchers can look forward to watching other changes overhead this month.

The waxing moon will appear near Jupiter on March 22, Venus on March 23 and 24, the Pleiades star cluster on March 25, Mars on March 27 and 28 and Pollux on March 29, according to NASA.

Starting on March 29, Mercury will begin appearing and join Venus in shifting higher each evening.
