FortisBC gas rate steady as carbon tax increases
The BC Utilities Commission has approved FortisBC's request to maintain the cost of natural gas as of April 1.
The utility commission reviews the cost of gas every three months with FortisBC, according to media release from the utility company. Beginning April 1, natural gas will be sold at $2.23 per gigajoule, the same price as the previous three months.
“We understand that energy costs are important to the families and businesses we serve, so we strive to deliver gas safely and reliably at the most reasonable cost,” vice-president Joe Mazza said in the release.
“Even with the cost of gas staying the same, we understand that customers may have questions about their bill so our customer service team is always ready to support them if they need it.”
The BC government's carbon tax is rising as scheduled on April 1 from $65 to $80 per tonne.
British Columbians who subscribe to renewable natural gas don’t pay the carbon tax for that gas usage, FortisBC said.
