Comedians go green in Kelowna
KELOWNA - The classic image of the haggard stand-up comic is so well-worn it's morphed into cliche: A beleaguered comedian with a cigarette in one hand and a drink, preferably whiskey, in another. Big names such as Dave Chappelle, Bill Hicks, and countless others have spent their time onstage sipping alcohol, puffing nicotine, or both.
But eight months after cannabis legalization in Canada, the scope of mind-altering substances comedians can bring onstage has grown, and a group of Kelowna comics is bringing a different kind of prop with them during their sets.
Comedians Go Green at Dakoda's Sports Bar and Grill on June 29 isn't a show built around recycling or environmentalism. The stand-up event is split into two halves. In the first section, a group of comedians will run through their sets with stone-cold sobriety. Afterward, they'll step outside, get stoned and return to the stage for a new, cannabis-fueled set.
