An SUV careened into the bleachers at a West Kelowna baseball field in April and the city wants to pay the bill for the repairs with the unknown driver's insurance.

It’s unclear what caused a four-door pickup to lose control and collide with the bleachers, but a 22-second video provided by the city captures the crash.

The vehicle is described as a light-coloured SUV, possibly an older model Nissan Pathfinder or Frontier with a canopy, according to a City of West Kelowna media release issued today, June 23. The accident happened at 5:15 a.m. April 10.

“Fortunately, the driver appeared to be unharmed,” the release says.

There was an estimated $35,000 of damage to the bleachers and a fence at Darroch Park on East Boundary Road.

“We are not seeking any charges against the driver; we are simply trying to recover costs through insurance," the release says.

The driver, or anyone with additional information, is asked to contact the city via email here or by calling 778-797-1000.
