There was a collision between two semi trucks with trailers on the Coquihalla Highway near Merritt yesterday.

Officers were called to a section of the Coquihalla Highway due to the crash that sent two truck drivers to hospital shortly after 6 p.m. on April 21, according to a press release from police.

Members of the Merritt Fire Department had to extract one of the drivers since the truck and trailer were so badly damaged.

Both drivers were seriously injured and one was airlifted to Royal Columbian Hospital.

"The cause of the collision is still under investigation," Merritt RCMP detachment commander Staff Sgt. Josh Roda said in the release. "It's a stark reminder that even when conditions are clear, collisions can happen."

Police are asking anyone with information or dash camera footage to contact Merritt RCMP at 250-378-4262.
