Transit is expanding to support increased ridership in Kelowna.

Services will be added between the UBC Okanagan campus, Rutland and downtown Kelowna as well as other trips on more routes, according to a Ministry of Transportation media release issued today, Aug. 20.

As well, improvements and an expanded taxi supplement program will be added to the Mission area in January of 2025. Approximately $39,000 has already been set in April of 2024 to assist in handyDART services during peak times on weekdays.

“Our communities are growing and need public-transit systems that are reliable and affordable,” Transportation Minister Rob Fleming said in the release. “We have seen that when people have access to an extensive transit system, they use it."

New services will be coming to the UBCO and Academy Way area which will include the replacement of the 4 at Pandosy/Orchard Park and the 84 Academy way routes.

A new 98 Rutland and UBCO express will be added to the city to ensure faster travel between the campus, Rutland and the downtown Kelowna area. The 19 Glenmore and Orchard Park will now access Drysdale Boulevard from Kane road.

More trips will be also added to routes one, five, eight, 10, 11, 13 and 97.
