Suspects in custody after pair of attempted carjackings in Penticton
Penticton RCMP have arrested two suspects in connection with two attempted carjackings last night.
Officers were called to a report from a Killarney Street resident about a man and woman who tried to steal his vehicle at around 6 p.m. yesterday, Oct. 17, according to an RCMP media release. The man said the two individuals fled the scene after he confronted them.
Police later received a similar report from another resident of the same street. The resident claimed the suspects pointed a firearm at a driver with the intent of robbing them of their car though the suspects failed to do so and, once again, fled the scene.
The suspects were arrested near Government Street and Carmi Avenue, RCMP said.
“Thankfully no one was physically harmed during these disturbing incidents,” RCMP spokesperson Cpl. James Grandy said in the release. “With the immediate and effective deployment of policing resources, including officers from Summerland, the suspects were safely apprehended, along with a firearm.”
A 48-year-old man and 31-year-old woman, both from Penticton, are currently in custody. No word what charges they will face.
