SIGN OF THE TIMES: Armstrong arena has an electric Zamboni
An electric Zamboni will be flooding the ice at the NorVal Arena in Armstrong from now on.
The change will reduce the arena’s greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 3,100 kilograms every year, according to a media release from Armstrong Spallumcheen Parks and Recreation.
A Ford F150 would have to travel 110,000 kilometres to create that much pollution, the release says.
“I am very excited to see our new electric Zamboni to arrive,” said Andrew Casson, chairman of the parks and rec commission, said in the release.
“It can be a challenge to find cost effective ways to upgrade or replace our equipment with improved tools, while balancing the impact on the environment, but this electric Zamboni checks all the boxes.”

Fans might find themselves breathing easier, too.
“The new electric Zamboni not only decreases greenhouse gas emissions but also will provide cleaner air in the arena,” general manager Lars Larson said in the release.
