One person was killed and another was taken to hospital following a crash between two semi trucks on Highway 97 near Monte Lake late yesterday afternoon.

BC Emergency Health Services said it received a call at 5:46 p.m. yesterday, Feb. 12, about a motor vehicle incident near Monte Creek.

Five ambulances responded to the scene and paramedics cared for and transported a patient to hospital, according to an email to iNFOnews.ca from BC Emergency Health Services issued today, Feb. 13.

The driver of one of the commercial vehicles was killed in the crash. The condition of the person taken to hospital is unclear.

The collision occurred on Highway 97 near Hanna Road in Monte Creek and caused a total blockage of the highway, BC Highway Patrol Cpl. Melissa Jongema said in an email. The highway was re-opened to traffic at 12:30 a.m. today.

“The highway will be temporarily closed during the vehicle removal today,” Cpl. Jongema said.

No word yet if any charges will be laid.
