A weekend crash near Logan Lake that killed three people continues to have ramifications as police officers who dealt with one of the drivers now find themselves under investigation by BC's police watchdog.

Police were called to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 97D near Logan Lake around 11:30 a.m., July 23. The driver of one of those vehicles was dealt with by police less than two hours before the collision.

RCMP were called to the Merritt Best Western around 6:25 a.m., where hotel staff said the unidentified man damaged a room and they asked for help getting him to leave.

He was cooperative and collected his belongings, leaving by roughly 10 a.m. after speaking with police, according to the Independent Investigations Office of BC.

The police watchdog is investigating what role, if any, police played in the collision and the deaths.

The other two people who died were a driver and passenger of the second vehicle.

Any person with relevant information or video footage of the incident is asked to contact the witness line toll-free at 1-855-446-8477 or via the contact form on the website here.

The IIO is the Independent civilian oversight agency of the police in BC. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
