A pickup truck struck a young pedestrian in Vernon Saturday and left them with life-threatening injuries.

Vernon RCMP are investigating the collision that happened around 12:10 p.m. on July 20, according to a press release from police.

The initial investigation shows the truck was making a right turn when it hit the pedestrian while they were walking across a crosswalk at 32 Street and 30 Avenue.

BC Emergency Health Services took the victim to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries. 

The driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with police. RCMP closed the intersection for several hours so officers could investigate.

Police have not released details about the victim or the driver.

The RCMP’s Integrated Collision Analyst and Reconstruction Service is continuing to investigate.
