More than $100,000 in donations have been made to two GoFundMe campaigns to raise money for the families of two of the three men killed in a major crash Aug. 28 on Highway 1 near the Yoho National Park gate east of Golden.

“Tanner was a loving husband and father, a talented and hard-working individual who had a passion for truck his entire life and was very well known in the trucking community,” the GoFundMe page for Tanner Liefting reads. “Tanner was taken from this world far too soon leaving behind his family.”

More than $95,000 has been donated to that campaign.

Liefting was the driver of a truck hauling cattle, including prize-winning animals owned by Shuswap and Okanagan 4H clubs.

Brandon Richard Johnson was his passenger, who also died.

“BJ was a wonderful friend, brother, son,” reads the GoFundMe page to assist his family. “He was so passionate about trucking. BJ along with Tanner and the other driver involved were taken too soon.”

More than $14,000 has been raised for his family.

Both men are from the Lower Mainland.

Jagsir Singh Gill, from Calgary, was the driver of the other semi-truck involved in the head-on collision. He also died.

No GoFundMe campaign has been launched for Gill, although there is one on GoFundMe.

Golden RCMP released more information about the crash yesterday, Aug. 30.

“Preliminary investigation shows that a westbound semi-truck hauling cattle crossed over the centre line and hit an eastbound semi-truck hauling lumber,” the release says. “Only one bovine survived the incident and is being treated for its injuries.”
