High school student killed in West Kelowna motorcycle crash
A high school student died in a motorcycle crash this morning in West Kelowna.
The student collided with a transport truck carrying a crane on Highway 97 near Grizzly Road this morning, Oct. 3, according to a press release from RCMP.
The unidentified motorcyclist died at the scene of the crash. The truck driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with police.
RCMP don't suspect any criminality but an accident reconstructionist has been called in and the investigation is ongoing.
The student attended Mount Boucherie Secondary School and the school district’s post-critical incident response team is at the school supporting students and staff.
“Our hearts are foremost with the student’s family, and we offer our support to everyone in the school community,” the school district’s superintendent Kevin Kaardal said in a press release. “This tragedy has a wide impact, and we will continue to support each other in the coming days and months through compassion and togetherness.”
Police are not releasing any more information about the fatal crash.
