BC RCMP officer charged in Boundary region car crash
A BC RCMP officer has been charged after getting into a car crash last year in the Boundary region.
Midway RCMP Const. Christopher Odgaard has been charged with driving without due care and attention and failing to safely execute a U-turn, according to a press release from the BC Prosecution service.
He was driving an unmarked Chevrolet Tahoe and went to make a U-turn to conduct a traffic stop near the intersection of North Government Avenue and Campbell Street in Greenwood, according to a release from the Independent Investigations Office.
There were four people in a grey Hyundai Tucson when it collided with the Tahoe that Odgaard was driving.
Someone in the Hyundai was seriously injured, two people had minor injuries and one person was uninjured. Odgaard was also injured in the crash.
B.C.’s civilian police watchdog investigated the incident and forwarded the evidence to the BC Prosecution Service to consider charging Odgaard.
With charges approved, Odgaard is set to appear in court on June 30.
The service said the charges were approved by an experienced Crown Counsel who has no connection with the officer.
