BC police watchdog investigating police action in Kelowna motorcycle crash
BC police watchdog is looking into a motorcycle crash that injured the rider during an attempted traffic stop in Kelowna.
A motorcyclist passed an unmarked Kelowna RCMP car while riding south on Highway 97 North at around 5:25 p.m., April 15, according to a Independent Investigations Office of BC media release.
Officers turned on their emergency equipment and attempted to stop the rider.
The rider didn’t stop and shortly after crashed on the off ramp from Highway 97 onto University Way.
Paramedics took the man to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Kelowna RCMP are investigating the man’s driving behaviour.
The Independent Investigations Office is responsible to conducting inquiries into police conduct.
The investigations office is looking into police action in this incident while RCMP are conducting a concurrent investigation into the man’s driving behaviour.
"Initial investigative steps seek to confirm if the man’s injuries meets the threshold of serious harm, as defined by the Police Act," the release said.

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in BC. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
