A magical and popular event for dads and daughters is returning to Penticton after a pandemic hiatus.

Tickets are selling quickly for Penticton’s seventh annual Snowflake Ball Daddy-Daughter Dance.

Organizer Kori Iceton said the growing event will host upwards of 500 people this year, the first in-person dance since 2020.

“During the pandemic we created other activities for daughters and dads that were less interactive,” she said. “We are very excited to host this magical in-person event again.”

The ball brings daughters and the special father figures in their lives together for a few hours of glitz, glamour and fun. The evening includes nail painting, crafting, supper and ice cream, and of course a daddy and daughter dance.

“It's about little girls spending quality time with their daddy,” Iceton said. “I love seeing the girls walking in all dressed up in sparkly dresses with their eyes big looking at the twinkling lights everywhere.”

Daughters and dads get a map of the stations when they enter including a quiet area with books for those who require less stimulation.

“The evening is filled with fun and creates special memories,” Iceton said. “Guests can expect music and dancing, crafts, sparkle and photos, along with supper, desserts and lots of surprises.”

Iceton and her co-organizer Dana Chapman started the non-profit annual dance after hearing about it in other cities.

“We have little girls around the same age and loved the idea,” she said. “I am an events manager at a brew pub. We raise our own money and have generous sponsors to put the events on.”

Iceton said the first event started at a seniors centre where 200 guests attended, and this year that number has grown to 500. They are looking for volunteers to join the team this year.

The Snowflake Ball Daddy-Daughter dance is sponsored by Scott Mayhew Contracting and New Generation Cabinets.

The event takes place at Penticton Lakeside Resort & Conference Centre West Ballroom on Sunday, Feb. 26, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Tickets cost $16.93 and can be purchased here.
