More than half the units in a new downtown Kamloops condo tower were sold in a single day.

Eighty-three homes were bought up in a Saturday, May 28, pre-sale in the first tower scheduled to be built for the new City Gardens development.

The 24-storey tower, Trillium, is the largest of two to be built by the Kelson Group. Once complete, City Gardens will take up an entire city block between Nicola and Battle streets and includes 525 units.

Of the 150 total units at Trillium, 55% of the "luxury" suites were sold on May 28, according to a Kelson Group news release.

They range in size and price, with some starting at $299,999 for the pre-sale, according to the City Gardens website. Others were sold well above that price.

“We had a number of units sell for over one million dollars during the sale launch to buyers which shows the strength of the real estate market in Kamloops and the excitement of purchasers to live in the luxury tower,” realtor Brendan Shaw said in the release.

Construction on the 24-storey tower was set to start this spring, with the goal to have it finished by 2025.

“Our company is committed to the communities in which we own and operate our residential buildings, both our apartments and our residential real estate projects,” Kelson Group president Jason Fawcett said. “All along, we wanted the citizens of Kamloops to feel engaged in the process, from when we originally launched the vision of City Gardens to the launch of sales."

City Gardens, between 4 and 5 Avenues, is set to boast two towers and four six-storey buildings.

After finally getting approval from the City in December, it's set to change the Kamloops skyline as its largest ever residential development.
