Many people dream of the freedom and privacy of living on a remote island, but the dream usually carries a multi-million dollar price tag.

That’s not the case for Loon Island, an almost half-acre property on Pavilion Lake, which is along Highway 99 halfway between Cache Creek and Lillooet.

“This charming three-season, one-and-a-half-storey home offers the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life,” says the listing by realtor Kevin Scharfenberg with TNRDhomes Real Estate Group out of Kamloops.

“Nestled on a spacious .46-acre island, this 900 sq ft wood-framed retreat provides a tranquil oasis surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty with approximately 575 feet of 360-degree waterfront!”

The house may be small and off the grid but comes with two bedrooms, wood stove, solar power, hot water (lifted from the lake into a storage tank so it’s gravity fed) and a three piece bathroom with a composting toilet (still being installed).

“You will absolutely love waking up in the primary bedroom that overlooks the lake,” Scharfenberg wrote. “Step outside onto the front and partial side deck, where you can bask in the sun's rays, entertain guests, or simply enjoy a quiet moment in nature. The panoramic lake views are a sight to see.”

Outside are two cabins that could be fixed up as bunkhouses for guests and there is a composting toilet in the outhouse.

The island is accessible by boat only, although it is only a short distance from the mainland. In a text, Scharfenberg said there was once a footbridge connecting the two but he doesn’t know if it’s possible for it to be rebuilt.

“Access to the lake is limited so you get to enjoy it yourself!” Scharfenberg wrote.

The asking price is $599,000 and it’s been on the market for a couple of months.
