The Sturgeon supermoon appeared in various shades through wildfire smoke, often orange or apricot colour last night and local shutterbugs caught some great photos.

The Sturgeon moon is one of two supermoons in August, the second, called a Blue supermoon, is showing up at the end of the month. A supermoon happens when the moon’s orbit is closest to the earth at the same time it is full making it appear bigger and brighter than usual.

The moon reaches maximum fullness at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow, Aug. 1. Nighttime skies are predicted to be clear in Kamloops and the Okanagan Valley for the next couple of nights for those who didn’t get a chance to view the moon yet.
