A Kamloops resident who loves cats and crochet put the two together and made some cat-sized comfortable couches.

Laurie Waddell was shocked when she posted photos of the couches on social media last month and was met with numerous requests for the unique pet accessory.

Roughly 30 requests for a couch came in soon after the post was made.

“I had to turn off commenting, I was shocked at the amount of interest,” she said.

The couches are made out of wool yarn in a variety of colours. They are small and soft, and can be spot washed and air dried.

Waddell said she got the idea from a crochet group on social media last year and after the people in her own family started asking for them she decided to expand.

“My boyfriend helps out but he can’t crochet,” she said. “He cuts the foam for the base and assembles that. My daughter isn’t as skilled yet in crochet. I’m swamped with requests for pricing and timelines, I think my hands might fall off from all the crocheting.”

Waddell has her work cut out for her for the next few months and isn’t able to take any more orders right now.

“I didn’t think they would be this popular, it's overwhelming."
