Event Description

Join us for Vol 16 of the Slackwater Sessions with Will Schlackl of Jack & Jill! Will received his Diploma in Jazz Studies from Malaspina University – College in 1994 and his Bachelor of Education from Simon Fraser University in 1995. His studies focused primarily on music. However, his love of the arts led him to study art history, theatre, and literature as well. Since then, he has taught school in Richmond, Hope, Bella Coola, and Penticton. Will has been blessed with amazing opportunities. With 25 years experience as a public school teacher and at least that much experience as a private music instructor, he has been able to share his love of music with people of all ages. He currently has over 200 public school students, and over 40 private students. As the coordinator of The Penticton Summer Guitar Program and The Rock Skool for 18years and the coordinator of Jazzcool for the last 11 years, he has been able to inspire many musicians. Some of his former students tour professionally and some have also gone on to become music educators. He has performed in the past as guitarist in “The Thursday Night Jazz Band”, “Faculty”, and the Jazz Trio” Cube”. Will is the lead singer and guitarist for the rock band “Fluxx” which performs as the house band for The Penticton Vees. Solo / duo / trio – vocal / guitar gigs in venues around Okanagan have continued to be a source of pleasure for Will. The latest project is the 5 piece rock band called “Jack N’ Jill”. It has taken off over the last five years. However, he continues to perform solo acoustic all over the Okanagan. It is not uncommon to hear Roger Miller, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, with Guns and Roses and Metallica in the same set. There is something for everyone at his show. Recent venues played solo include: Penticton Community Market, Ellis on The Rise, Thornhaven Winery, Hillside Estates Winery, Hester Creek Winery, Barefoot Beach Bar and Grill, Match Restaurant, and Patio Burger.
