Event Description

Kentucky Eileen Saturday, November 23rd Doors 6pm Show 8pm Kentucky Eileen is a brand new folk/bluegrass quartet born from the bush in the South Interior of BC. Based around melodic swells and four-part harmony, four of BC's most beloved musical savants comprise the lineup; Joshua Smith (The Trips), Dan Tait (Tiger Moon), Sam Balson (Dope Folk, The Stone Sparrows), and Mitch Howanyk (Wild Son). Inspired by Roger Miller and Ricky Skaggs, this quartet takes traditional American folk and bluegrass and gives it a supremely Canadian flavour - sonically akin to The Band. They are all multi-instrumentalists, experienced storytellers, and storied entertainers - prepared to bring you a spectacular show. For many years the Kelowna music scene began to bloom and grow and develop – and as the scene grew, many of the artists that were forming the scene began to play along with each other... Sometimes it would be during a live-performance, other times it would be a feature lead on a recording. Songwriters Joshua Smith, Dan Tait, and Mitchell Howanyk were instrumental parts in this scene for a decade – and had played together numerous times. Overlapping with their individual projects Tiger Moon, Wild Son, Funk Force, and Impavid – as well as many solo ventures – this trio had performed together plenty, and became very comfortable with each others styles. Each individual had roots beyond Kelowna – each had spent a little bit of time living everywhere. They had spent years collecting the stuff that songwriters need to tell a story, and had cut their teeth in many different music scenes. Now these three pillars form the basis of the new quartet Kentucky Eileen. Tickets: Wings $22 Wings $12
