Event Description

We invite you to join us for our July Monthly Meditation on Sunday, July 28th, from 10:30AM - 12:00PM with an optional discussion period from 12 - 12:30. This month will be a little different than our other meditations as we will be meeting at the Labyrinth in Riverside Park rather than our center. We invite you to bring something to share and to stay after the meditation to join us for an informal potluck. We would love to spend some extra time with you enjoying the summer sun; everyone is welcome. In the event of poor weather, we will meet at the Happyness Center as per usual. Details: Date | Sunday, July 28th Time | 10:30AM - 12:30PM with optional putluck to follow Location | at the Labyrinth, Riverside Park Cost | $5.00 cash only (no pre-registration required) Meditation Focus | Embracing What Is *** Meditation Focus: Embracing What Is Desire is natural. While our desires take different forms and levels of intensity, we all have them. In and of itself, desire is good. Desire can challenge us to go out of our comfort zone to achieve a goal or dream that others may not believe possible. It may give us the courage we need to speak to a stranger who becomes dear to us, or encourage us to act in a way that helps us become a better version of our self. But when we allow the craving born of desire to take control, we become restless. When there is comparison attached to the desire, or when a desire is born of jealousy, such a passion will make us feel insecure and mentally weak. When we take the time to really look into our desires, into what we crave, we maybe notice that our craving is not coming from a positive place bettering our self, but rather it has been born of fear and discomfort: running away from “what is”; believing that something or someone else will make us whole. We desire to be identified with someone or something (a significant other, money, fame, material possessions etc.) so that we do not have to see and face the actual thoughts and feelings that are bothering us such as inadequacy, loneliness, fear and shame. But when we practice seeing and facing “what is” without judgement and without escape and turning away, we have the opportunity to find that we are perfect the way that we are and that there is nothing to change. We must come to accept “what is” within our self as enough in order to move through this life with satisfaction and true joy.
