Event Description

We know that many people are staying home on their computers, so we decided to embark on a virtual cultural journey of crafting demonstrations and lessons that we can share with our community. We will feature monthly demonstrations shared via Zoom that will highlight a culture through its crafts. This is a great way to experience a new craft and ask questions if needed. Please sign up for classes that interest you. All classes will start at 2pm. Cultural Creations - Basket Making with Jennifaye Jennifaye Singleton, is a fifth-generation Sweetgrass basket weaver located in historic Charleston, SC. Through basket weaving, and storytelling she preserves a dying art that was founded by the slaves that were bought and sold to Charleston plantations to cultivate rice and other crops. Her baskets and jewelry are woven from sustainably sourced, hand picked sweetgrass, pine needles, bullrush and palmetto fronds. Come watch her to a demo on how this wonderful craft is done. You can also check our her website. https://geecheesweetgrassbaskets.square.site/
