Event Description

Join us for this very special fundraising concert! In honour of the Marietta Garden at Benvoulin Heritage Park, Nancy DiNovo, Steve Denroche, and Arnold Draper perform Beethoven’s Spring Sonata followed by a selection of lighter classics, including a hand horn demonstration, and Brahms’ thrilling Horn Trio which he wrote after the passing of his mother. Former member of the St. Louis, Toronto, and Boston Symphony Orchestras, violinist Nancy DiNovo has performed in the world’s major concert halls on three continents with conductors such as Leonard Bernstein, Seiji Ozawa, and Christopher Hogwood. Her playing has been described as “stunning – a superlative mix of virtuosity and earthy vigour” (Victoria Times Colonist), and “simply astonishing……her sheer joy of reveling in the music left me dazzled.” (Hamilton Spectator). As a Baroque violinist, she was the founding concertmaster of the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra and is a regular guest leader with the Okanagan Festival Singers. A member of the CBC Radio Orchestra for many years, Steve Denroche has performed with the Vancouver Opera Orchestra since 1980. Raised in Kelowna, he served as principal horn of the Okanagan Symphony from 1978-1981. A founding member/arranger for the brass ensemble Cornucopia and current member of the Turning Point Ensemble, Steve has performed across Canada, Asia, and the USA. He enjoys playing on both baroque and hand horn with Vancouver and Victoria-based early music ensembles. His recording credits include work for CBC Records, Disney Films. British-born pianist Arnold Draper enjoys a multi-faceted career. Recipient of the Scorpion Award for Classical Musician of the Year and the 2014 Kelowna Arts Council Lifetime Achievement Award, Mr. Draper served for 14 years on the faculty of University College, Cardiff, and was staff accompanist for BBC Wales and Independent Television. An integral part of Kelowna’s music scene since 1986, he has performed for Chamber Music Kelowna, the OSO, the Mozart Festival, and Ballet Kelowna. He played a leading role in seven concerts in the l994 International Festival and has performed across Canada, Europe, and the USA.
