Event Description

Have you always wanted to set tires on a race track? Do you want to fine-tune your high-performance driving skills? Are you interested in racing competitively? If the answer is YES, then the 2.5-Day Camaro Driving Academy is for you! This course will teach participants everything from the basics of high-performance driving, to safely open lapping on the full circuit at Area 27. Over the 2.5-Day Driving Academy, drivers will participate in classroom theory, on-track exercises, and build their way up to full circuit lapping sessions at Area 27. Participants will experience the track in one of our new Camaro 1LE track cars in either a Turbo 4-Cylinder 1LE, V6 RS 1LE or a V8 SS 1LE. (First come, first serve!) The curriculum will cover and include: - basic corner set-up, entry, and exit phases - a review of the Camaro 1LE’s performance features and seat position - breaking techniques - correct driving lines - track safety and flag definitions - proper weight transfers - controlled short and full course lapping - open lapping - comprehensive group and individual evaluations This Academy 27 program is led by Area 27’s Chief Instructor, Kees Nierop, and his esteemed team of instructors. Kees has extensive experience with over 45-years of driving and racing experience. He is the winner of the legendary Sebring 12-Hours of Endurance Race, was a Porsche Factory Driver at the 1987 LeMans 24hr and Daytona, is a Canadian GT-1 and Rothmans Porsche 944 Champion, and is the only Canadian to have his name on a Porsche factory race car displayed in the new Porsche Museum in Germany. Kees is joined by instructors: Stefan Rzadzinski, Scott Hargrove, Remo Ruscitti, Zac Zawisza, Cameron Cassels, and guest instructor Patrick Carpentier. There is a maximum of 16 participants per school with a ratio of one instructor to four participants; this allows for countless opportunities to receive one-on-one feedback. This course is approximately 20-hours long and drivers will receive a certificate upon successful completion of the course. All of the 16 Camaros have a manual transmission, except for one V8 SS 1LE automatic. To arrange for the automatic V8 please contact the school directly at academy@area27.ca. The remainder of the participants must be confident in driving a standard vehicle. Registration is from 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on the first day, with a 2-hour theory portion starting at 5:30 p.m. The following days will begin at 9 a.m., with a recommended arrival of 8:30 a.m. These days will conclude around 4:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided both days, as well as an Instructor’s Dinner Social after the first full day. 2020 Camaro Academy School dates: July 1 – 3 | July 3 – 5 | July 26 – 28 | August 12 – 14 | August 14 – 16 | August 28 – 30 | September 21 – 23 |October 14 – 16 | October 16 – 18 | October 18 – 20 *Please note a $2,000 Camaro rental damage deposit is required *Drivers must be 18 years or older Save $300 by using code CANADA300 when you register.
