KAMLOOPS — The company has remained mostly silent since it announced it would be postponing the environmental application process to further study ore deposits in the area but KGHM, the company behind the Ajax Mine project, promises that's about to change.

“There will be a significant announcement Thursday,” External Affairs Manager Yves Lacasse says. “We believe it will be perceived very favourably by the community.”

Lacasse is reluctant to release any further information before the Thursday morning announcement but notes it is something the company has been working on for many months and they are excited to get it out to the community.

Last August, a month before KGHM was planning to submit an environmental assessment for the proposed mine, the company announced it discovered more ore deposits and would spend the next several months exploring the potential of a bigger mine and placement of mine facilities. Even with those delays the company held a series of public information sessions that provided general information about open pit mining.

Earlier this spring, they released a commercial promising more open communication within the community. Lacasse says they also began promoting a website where only Kamloopsians could discuss the project. The company also moved the main Ajax Mining office a few blocks down Seymour Street in March.

The proposed copper-gold mine is set to be located on the southwestern edge of Kamloops, immediately south of the West Highlands area of Aberdeen.
