KAMLOOPS — Three youths were arrested Wednesday in connection with the recent investigation into the exchange of inappropriate materials in School District 73.

RCMP say three males, all under 18-years-old, were arrested Wednesday, Feb. 12 on charges of distribution of child pornography. Very few details are being released because of the age of those involved but Cpl. Cheryl Bush says two of the youths were released at the time of arrest while another remained in custody (refused to sign judicial release documents) and was in court today.

Details on what schools any of the students were in or the type of materials distributed will not be shared but Bush says the materials fit the definition of child porn as it appears in the criminal code.

“This is concerning behaviour, and when it does fall within the realm of the criminal code it will be treated as such,” Bush says. “It will be up to the courts to determine the outcome.”

The investigation is ongoing and Bush says further charges have not been ruled out. All three individuals are expected to be in court this April.

Social media expert Jesse Miller was brought in to talk to parents and students shortly after news of the investigation broke and plans to have him return to speak again are in the works.
