YLW announces a way to get more Mexico

Options for winter getaways just got a whole lot sweeter with the introduction of Sunwing Airlines new flight series from Kelowna International Airport to Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo beginning December 19, 2013. The flights will operate every Thursday until April 3, 2014 using a 189-seat Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

“We are pleased to offer another beach destination to our sun-seeking travellers,” says Airport Director Sam Samaddar. “This service provides travellers with more resort options and new opportunities to experience Mexico this winter.”

Sunwing Airlines and Sunwing Vacations, are Canadian affiliate companies based in Toronto, which have served Kelowna for the past five years, operating charters to Cancun, Mazatlan and San Jose del Cabo.

Ixtapa is located 200 km north of Acapulco, and just a short drive from the fishing village of Zihuatanejo. It is situated 15 minutes from the endless beaches of Troncones, and about 30 minutes from the fabulous beaches and wildlife reserve lagoons of Barra de Potosi. All are accessible by car, taxi or bus service.

In Ixtapa, hotels line up along a beautiful, wide, golden sand beach. Beyond the beach, visitors can take part in world-class golf and an abundance of watersports. Guests can experience a wonderful array of international cuisine, while sipping margaritas and marveling at the beautiful sunsets. Don't forget to pack your dancing shoes, as you will be swept away by the rhythms of the finest discotheques Mexico has to offer.

Zihuatanejo is less than 10 kilometres from Ixtapa and can be visited by a quick bus or cab drive. For a true sense of Mexican culture, meander through the cobblestone streets of this charming old fishing village and enjoy shopping at authentic Mexican markets.

There is a plethora of Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo tours and attractions from which to choose, including diving, snorkeling, fishing, sightseeing, hiking, sailing, island tours, magical sunset cruises, horseback trekking, and bird watching. There are two excellent golf courses within easy reach of the hotel district and each offers a very different golf experience. Both of these courses have reputations as being two of Mexico’s best courses.
