YLW’s annual event lets consumers know what’s new in winter vacation travel
The ever-popular Hot Sun Destinations event will take place at Kelowna International Airport (YLW) on Oct. 19, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. The annual event attracts Okanagan residents who want to learn about what’s new and exciting for winter vacation options.
“This is a great event,” says Sam Samaddar, Airport Director. “We get a fantastic turnout from our exhibitors and the public and there is a lot of excitement as we start to turn our attention to planning winter getaways. With the introduction of our two newest airline partners it’s not just a beach vacation we are introducing.”
Due to the tremendous support of the airport’s aviation partners, YLW has an amazing line-up of travel prizes up for grabs, including seven flights: an all-inclusive trip for two to Ixtapa from Sunwing Vacations; air travel for two on Air Canada to Hawaii; tickets for two to any WestJet destination; air travel for two to Cancun with Transat Holidays/Nolitours; tickets for two with Alaska Airlines; a three-night stay under the Northern Lights with Air North, Yukon's Airline, and tickets for two on YLW’s newest air carrier Pacific Coastal Airlines.
Those who enter the draw also give back to the community by making a donation to a local charity. This year it is Arion Therapeutic Farm (www.arionfarm.org ), a 12.5-acre oasis where 13 different programs are offered for people with disabilities and their families. The farm welcomes up to 300 people per week and is staffed by 22 employees and more than 100 volunteers. The farm is pleased to announce that construction of its long awaited indoor riding arena will soon begin. The new building will ensure the weather no longer presents a challenge and valuable therapies can continue year round. They anticipate the grand opening will take place during their annual Winter Wonderland family event on Nov. 30/Dec. 1.
Prize ballots will be available at the draw table: $5 for one, $10 for three and $20 for five chances to win. Tax receipts are issued for all donations over $20. The draw for all prizes awarded by YLW will be made at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19. All winners will be contacted by telephone on Saturday if they are not still at the airport and the list of winners will be posted on the YLW Facebook page.
Parking is free for this event in the long-term lot. Parking vouchers are required to be validated at the event.
