PUBLIC CONSULTATION WILL HELP GUIDE NEXT PHASE OF LIFE FOR OKANAGAN CAMPUS
UBC’s Okanagan campus is developing a vision for its next phase of life through a consultation process called Aspire. On Monday, February 17, from 4 to 7 p.m., UBC is hosting a public consultation at the Rotary Centre for the Arts to seek ideas from the Okanagan community. Senior members of the university will be on hand, and there will be a number of ways for people to share their thoughts.
Participants will be asked for their views on a series of questions:
- How can UBC best learn from and contribute to our region?
- Looking ahead 20 years, what should UBC Okanagan be best known for and most respected?
- What do you envision UBC doing in the Okanagan that isn’t already being done?
“UBC’s Okanagan campus plays a critical role in the social, cultural and economic health of the region,” says Deborah Buszard, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Principal. “It is important that the community has an opportunity to actively participate in the discussions that will help to shape our collective understanding of our future, the role we play and how we will impact the region.”
UBC’s Okanagan campus has more than 8,300 students, 1,100 full-time permanent employees and a growing research enterprise. A recent economic impact study showed the campus’ overall contribution to the regional economy as nearly $1.5 billion. UBC is eager to play an even more significant role in the region and community response will play an important part in shaping the Okanagan campus’ place.
