What’s open when during the holidays in Kamloops

KAMLOOPS - If you don’t want to show up with your skates to a closed arena, make sure you know the holiday hours of various facilities in Kamloops.

City Hall and public works

Both City Hall and the public works buildings will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. In addition to these two statutory holidays, both offices will also be closed on Monday, Dec. 28. After these days, business will resume from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.

In case of an emergency, the public works after hours answering service is still available.

Thompson-Nicola Regional District office and libraries

The regional district office will close down from Dec. 24 at 1 p.m. and will not reopen until Monday, Jan. 4. The building inspection office in Merritt will be closed during this same time.

All district libraries will be closed Dec. 25, 26 and Jan. 1 but open regular hours the remaining days.

City arenas

The Brock Arena, the Sandman Centre, McArthur Island Sport and Event Centre, Memorial Arena and Valleyview Arena will all be closed  3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 24 through Sunday Dec. 27.

Regular skate times change slightly at both the Sandman Centre and the Memorial Arena.

Tuesday, Dec. 22 two additional teen drop-in times have been added at the Sandman Centre. Between 2 to 4 p.m. there is a hockey drop-in for 13- to 15-year-old players and between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. two hours of drop in time for players ages 16 and 17 years.

Monday Dec. 28 the Memorial Arena has added a public skate from 6 and 8 p.m. and a stick and puck drop-in time has been added for Wednesday, Dec. 30, from 7 to 9 p.m.

All arenas will be closed Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 but additional ice times may be added to the holiday schedule.

Tournament Capital Centre and Canada Games Pool

Both the field house and the pool will be closed Dec. 25, 26, 28 and Jan. 1. On both Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve facilities will shut down at 4 p.m. All other days, the centre will be open its regular scheduled hours.
